A Taste of Jewish Toronto: Past, Present & Future

This multi-experience event brought to life the bakeries, delis, and eateries that once defined community life—the places where people gathered to eat, schmooze, fall in love, strike deals, and even solve community challenges over shared plates. The night began with a gallery experience featuring historical visuals and content from generations that built our Jewish food landscape, courtesy of the Ontario Jewish Archives. Attendees were treated to delicious tastes inside a mini Shuk of Jewish up and coming hot spots like Romi's and Mazel Tov, plus classic brands like United Bakers, Kivas, Wolfies, and Chicago 58 and brought to life by our partners Bevakasha and Emet Talks.

Once the doors opened to the theatre, an on-stage panel of storytellers of food experts captivated the audience with incredible details of how it all began and anecdotes that made us laugh and remember. Moderated by Chef Anthony Rose, and featuring, Ruthie Ladovsky from United Bakers, David Sax, author: The Deli King, Lucy Waverman - writer, and Miriam Borden, a Yiddish scholar and Historian, all sharing memories of the city’s iconic eateries.

Nostalgic, flavourful, and fun, this was a moment in time where generations came together to celebrate community and food.
